Buying & Selling Scrap Cable
At CB Pugh Metal Recycling we buy and sell nearly all types of cable. Our most commonly dealt with cable types are:
- Single strand
- Household cable (pluggy and plug free)

- Wiring Looms
- Low grade industrial cable (Armoured)
- Aluminium quad core
The cable you bring in will be graded and priced accordingly. Our yard staff will then process it and arrange its transport to the next stage of recycling.

Scrap Cable FAQs
Why would I sell scrap cable?
Cable’s value comes from its copper core that allows it to conduct electricity. The amount of copper content a cable determines its value. Other materials such as steel armour may reduce the value.
Where can I find scrap cable?
Scrap cable could come from anywhere. Commonly from appliances and gadgets or left over pieces from DIY projects. People who work with cable, like electricians often accumulate a lot of spare bits.
Should I remove the outer material of my cable?
If you have the time and facilities to remove the outer insulation from the cable then you certainly should. Depending on the cable type, removal of all outer insulating material will leave bare copper wire known as ‘Dry Bright’ which is one of the cleanest and most valuable forms of copper.
What about plugs and attachments?
We do not buy cable with plugs and attachments on it, please remove these prior to weighing in.
Do I need identification to sell scrap?
Yes. In line with scrap metal trading legislation, anyone supplying scrap who is not a registered company must provide valid identification. Accepted ID includes a UK photocard driving licence (with address) or a UK passport (or passport of another nationality) supported by a recent utility bill (issued within the last 3 months).
