The materials we buy are processed on-site. Some loads of mixed materials will be separated into different grades of varying value, whilst some will be decontaminated to produce ‘cleaner’ material with higher value.
Materials are then transported to the next stage of their recycling journey, whether that be a foundry, another metal recycling site or abroad.

How can I make money from scrap metal?

How can I sell my scrap metal at CB Pugh’s?
Good news, weighing in scrap metal with us is very easy. You don’t need an appointment, just come to our Darlaston site whenever suits you. Once you’ve created an account you can weigh larger, ferrous materials on our big, drive-on weighbridge and smaller, non-ferrous goods on our smaller scales. Once you’ve got your ticket you can drive off and expect payment in just a few hours.
What happens to scrap metal once it is weighed in?
The function of our scrap yard is to process materials in such a way that they are closer to being recycled and having a second life. In our case, processing might look like separating a large quantity of mixed materials into its different grades, or removing ‘contaminants’ from materials in order to make them more pure. Once we have finished processing, materials are transported onwards to the next stage of recycling, this might be to a foundry, another recycling plant or even abroad.
Do I need identification to sell scrap?
Yes. In line with scrap metal trading legislation, anyone supplying scrap who is not a registered company must provide valid identification. Accepted ID includes a UK photocard driving licence (with address) or a UK passport (or passport of another nationality) supported by a recent utility bill (issued within the last 3 months).
